FAQs
What is a mandibular device?
A mandibular device is an oral appliance that repositions your lower jaw while you sleep. This keeps your airway open and helps prevent most snoring and sleep apnea.2
It's typically recommended for patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea or those who cannot tolerate CPAP therapy.
How does it work?
You put the device in before going to bed. While you sleep, it gently pushes the lower jaw forward. This prevents the collapse of soft tissues at the back of your throat which can block your airway.
Is it comfortable to wear?
Most find the device comfortable after an initial adjustment period. Modern designs are compact and custom-made to fit your mouth.
How is it fitted?
A BlueSleep dentist takes impressions of your teeth to create a custom device for you. Once it arrives, they’ll help you adjust it until it feels right.
How long does it take to see results?
Many patients notice improvements in snoring and sleep quality almost immediately. Long-term results for sleep apnea vary based on individual anatomy and adherence to use.
Are there any side effects?
Common side effects include jaw discomfort, teeth shifting, salivation changes or dry mouth. These usually subside with continued use or adjustments to the device.
Is it covered by insurance?
No need to worry! Many insurance plans cover mandibular devices for sleep apnea. BlueSleep checks your insurance eligibility as part of the process.
